How to use 8051 IDE?

  1. We open this tool by following the procedure given below. Start->Programs-> 8051 IDE.

  1. The following window will unfold in front of you.

  1. Click on ‘New’ to open a new editor.

  1. Write the program code in the editor.

  1. Click on the ‘Assemble’ tab on Menu Bar and select ‘Assemble’ from the drop down menu as shown in the figure below:

  1. The ‘Output’ window will open on the screen as follows. Look out for the errors if any and rectify them to assemble again.

  1. Click on ‘Simulate’ tab on Menu Bar and then select ‘Start Simulator’ to simulate the program code.

  1. Click on ‘View’ tab and click on ‘Ports’ and ‘Registers’ to visualise the processing of Ports, Registers, Control Registers, Direct Memory and other peripherals.

Once selected from the peripherals, you will see the screen like the one shown below:

  1. Hence, the simulation of your 8051 program code is complete with the above step. You can make changes in your program code to see the effects on various peripherals under consideration.
